All regions of the world are affected by global warming, and climate change poses a threat to the development of the entire planet. The production, transport, use, and disposal of our products result in significant greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. At Markskydd i Väst AB, we support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and our actions and objectives align with:

Since our inception, Markskydd i Väst has aimed to offer innovative solutions to the construction industry and other markets where there is a need to protect land and the environment from human impact. We are committed to increasing material recycling and fostering stronger circular flows for plastic. Our goal is to increase the use of “waste plastic” as material for our products, reducing the incineration of this material.
Circular Products
We strive to offer only circular products, made from recycled materials that can be reused. Since 2020, all of our LDPE-based products are made from 100% recycled plastic and are fully recyclable.
Through product and process innovation, we continuously increase the use of sustainable materials where possible. In collaboration with RISE (Research Institute of Sweden), we are working to improve our methods and the use of recycled plastic, aiming to create better processes for production and making use of plastics that are currently not recycled.
We collaborate with a large number of plastic recycling companies across Europe, and we set high standards for the producers we work with. Not only must the products be of high quality and contain recycled raw materials, but the plastic must also be capable of being recycled again.

Success
By using recycled plastic mats, we reduce emissions compared to typical business-as-usual scenarios where plastic is incinerated. Ground protection made from recycled plastic also has a smaller CO2 footprint compared to other alternatives. LDPE mats have been approved and recommended by Byggvarubedömningen since 2020 and should ideally be recycled after use.
In 2022, Markskydd i Väst AB continued to develop the types of recycled plastic used in our products with great success. Our goal is to increase the use of “waste plastic” in our products to further reduce CO2 equivalent emissions beyond current levels.
Challenge
A small number of our products are still not made from 100% recycled material. Our goal is to educate the market and its customers to phase out these products and encourage them to transition to more environmentally friendly alternatives, which we already offer. In 2021, these products accounted for 1.89% of our total sales, with a goal to reduce that share to 0% by 2030.
This transition is supported through collaboration with RISE and VGR in developing the use of “waste plastic” in the production of new, innovative products that replace those with poorer climate performance.
