In our production process, we use recycled high-quality polyethylene plastic, meaning we do not introduce new plastic. The “existing” plastic is collected, sorted, washed, and cleaned LDPE and HDPE. All of our plastic is recycled by close partners to minimize transport and ensure ISO-certified recycling. The plastic does not absorb soil contaminants.
Our entire business model is based on a circular economy, which briefly means:
- There is already enough plastic in the world. This plastic can and should be collected.
- Once collected, we use the leftover plastic that is not already recycled for other purposes.
- This leftover plastic is melted down and granulated, then processed in extrusion machines, which create plastic sheets.
- We sell these products to our customers.
- Once the plastic has served its purpose, it can be recycled again, and the process starts over.
Markskydd i Väst AB strives to offer a complete catalog of recycled material products to minimize our environmental impact and meet growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products. Our entire product portfolio is primarily made from post-consumer waste, containing as much recycled content as possible while maintaining performance standards and remaining recyclable.
By purchasing and producing environmentally responsible products, we provide better alternatives for construction projects. Whether they are used for temporary installations, such as event flooring or construction sites, or more permanent applications, our products are designed to create safe and healthy environments for the public. Our core products contribute to more sustainable building practices and comply with EU environmental standards.

The Short Answer: Avoid or at least reduce the need for ground restoration, lower the risk of machine damage, and minimize delays at the worksite. The purpose of ground protection mats is to effectively safeguard lawns, asphalt, concrete, or other surfaces. They are highly effective for access roads, walkways, portable paths, and ground stabilization. Our goal is to help customers streamline their worksite operations and reduce expenses/costs.
Comparison 1: Like a highly durable, slip-resistant PLYWOOD. The difference is that our mats last much longer, have a smaller environmental impact, can be rinsed and reused, withstand moisture, and return to their original shape.
Comparison 2: Like a more cost-effective and lighter version of slip-resistant STEEL ROAD PLATES, with the key difference being that they are environmentally friendly, do not require a crane for placement, can be handled manually, stored in a garage, and cut to the desired size.
TempoTrax® Light & Medium Mix are extruded plastic plates with pre-cut corner holes, handles, and a grip pattern on the top surface. They are made from LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), whereas TempoTrax® Heavy Duty is made from HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene). Both are high-quality, purified, but recycled plastic. This means we do not contribute to new plastic production, but instead, use existing plastic collected through recycling systems in the EU. The plastic is washed, granulated, melted, and extruded (HDPE is compression molded) into plates. HDPE is designed for more demanding uses, such as supporting heavy vehicles on surfaces that require greater reinforcement and protection.
All products are made from 100% recycled material, which benefits society, the environment, and your budget.
It is important to note that the material and production process are regulated under EU legislation and environmental standards with the necessary certifications. TempoTrax® is not manufactured outside the EU (e.g., China), where legislation and environmental rules may differ.
Plastic road mats are primarily used to protect soft surfaces or areas that need protection from wear and tear, where pressure needs to be evenly distributed. Common surfaces include grass, paving stones, gravel, or muddy roads. Ground protection mats help distribute the weight, allowing work to proceed without unnecessary restoration costs. They are a convenient alternative to steel road plates and a superior option compared to plywood, plyboard, or leftover materials found on-site.
Since the ground protection mats are made either through co-extrusion of LDPE or molded HDPE, we can technically produce almost any size if the volume justifies it. In other words, for large volume orders, we can customize the size, design, color, and more.
On our website focused on industrial plastics, you can find a wider range of plastic plates.
Yes, TempoTrax Economy, Light, Medium Mix, and Heavy Duty mats can be easily placed and moved manually, making them simple to install and transport. This is one of their key selling points. We also provide pre-cut handles, connection systems, fasteners, and hooks to make installation even easier.
Our best-selling mat, TempoTrax Heavy Duty, weighs 37 kg and can be easily placed on the ground by hand. No need for forklifts, cranes, or a large workforce for installation.
We also offer heavier-duty mats like timber mats, steel road plates, and Extreme Heavy Duty mats, which naturally require more installation effort or cranes, but they offer load-bearing capacity up to 200 tons.
Yes, the LDPE & HDPE variants in the TempoTrax® series typically return to their original shape after use, especially when stored flat (e.g., on pallets). Since these ground protection mats distribute pressure across the surface, their shape may change under heavy loads. However, they will naturally return to their original form when placed back on a pallet or flat storage before the next use.
In a hurry? Place the mat on a completely smooth, solid surface at room temperature or higher (such as a concrete floor in a garage or basement). Place weights in each corner and pour warm water over the center and corners. The mat should return to its flat shape within 30 minutes.
Most of our products come with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, which covers defects in manufacturing. However, claiming a manufacturing defect on an extruded plastic plate made from recycled plastic is nearly impossible and doesn’t hold much weight.
We do not currently offer guarantees such as “full return rights regardless of reason” or guarantees that promise the plastic plates can handle any weight under all circumstances. We provide usage recommendations, but it is ultimately up to the user to determine if the product is suitable for their intended use. In the rare cases where a plate has cracked, it is almost impossible to trace the exact cause since it is rarely clear whether they were used correctly—i.e., on a flat surface, not exceeding the maximum weight, or under proper temperature conditions (e.g., not used in freezing temperatures).
That said, we do offer a 1-year manufacturing warranty against functional defects due to production errors. Use common sense. If you’re in a hurry and only have LIGHT ground protection mats on hand, but still use them for trucks well over the weight limit on muddy, soft ground, the mats may break. Either Quote the right mats for the situation or use the ones you have—but be fair and understand that in such cases, you risk breaking a plate, and it should be considered a consumable item.
Yes, they can. The use of “ground protection” has evolved as a market-driven solution over the past 10 years. The product is marketed as “ground protection” and has been proven through tests and usage to be suitable and durable under favorable environmental conditions, supporting weights up to XX tons per square meter.
However, this covers thousands of different scenarios, ground conditions, weather, and other circumstances that cannot be fully calculated in advance. Therefore, there is always a risk that a mat may break.
Due to the nature of the material, the application, typical handling, and the industry, ground protection mats should be considered a durable, yet consumable product. A consumable product wears out over time—meaning that if a mat is exposed to significant pressure, it is likely to crack eventually. Misuse or conditions like freezing temperatures further increase the likelihood of damage. Customers, especially those renting out the mats, should take this into account when planning.
Markskydd i Väst AB does not replace used mats. Return rights and cancellations are time-limited. Claims for defects involve a heavy burden of proof and shared responsibilities, such as transport costs. All customers agree to our terms upon placing an order. Read more of terms and conditions here (länka till den sidan).
TempoTrax Light & Medium:
If temperatures are below freezing and you’re not comfortable treating the mats as consumable items (e.g., you’re concerned about the risk of cracking), you should avoid using these products. Instead, we recommend the following products:
- TempoTrax Heavy Duty or Heavy Duty Extreme
- ArmorTrax series
- Steel road plates or similar.
These products are designed to withstand freezing temperatures, and some even come with certain guarantees.
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a thermoplastic made from petroleum. It is sometimes referred to as “alkathene” or “polyethylene” when used for pipes. With a high strength-to-density ratio, HDPE is commonly used in the production of plastic bottles, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes, and plastic lumber. HDPE is frequently recycled, identified by the resin identification code “2.”
In 2017, the global HDPE market reached a volume of over 50 million tons.
LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene)
Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a thermoplastic made from the monomer ethylene. It was the first class of polyethylene, produced in 1933 by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) using a high-pressure process via free-radical polymerization, which is still used today. According to the EPA, about 5.7% of LDPE (recycling code “4”) is recycled. Despite competition from more modern polymers, LDPE remains an important material. In 2013, the global LDPE market had a value of approximately 33 billion USD.
Key Differences
While there are many types of polyethylene, the two most common are LDPE and HDPE. Much like PVC and CPVC are related in the polymer world, LDPE and HDPE share many similarities—but also some significant differences.
LDPE is produced through free-radical polymerization, resulting in extensive long- and short-chain branching, leading to its lower density. This branching prevents the molecules from packing tightly in their crystalline form, giving LDPE less tensile strength but greater flexibility. This exceptional “formability” makes LDPE suitable for a wide range of applications, from rigid products like plastic bottles, buckets, and containers to thin films like plastic wraps and liners.
On the other hand, HDPE has minimal branching, allowing for tightly packed linear molecules during crystallization. This makes HDPE denser, stiffer, and stronger. Its added tensile strength makes HDPE ideal for applications requiring more “backbone,” such as detergent containers, garbage bins, water pipes, and children’s toys. HDPE’s durability also makes it a popular choice over cardboard for fireworks tubes, as HDPE pipes are less likely to be crushed, and once spent, the tubes are recyclable.
Considerations for Customers
As a customer, it’s essential to determine what material is best suited for your specific needs. While we provide as much information as possible, we primarily manufacture and sell plastic sheets. Unfortunately, we cannot offer consultations, guarantees, or promises beyond the scope of the products themselves.
